Hey there! I'm Yvette, and I'm thrilled to share my culinary journey with you. It all started right here in Baton Rouge, where my love affair with food began. My culinary education took root at Nicholls State University's John Folse Culinary Institute. I had the dreamiest college experience enjoying the "normal" fun, but also classes like a Tuesday afternoon Food & Wine paring lab that solidified these are my people and this is my passion.
After Graduation, not ready for a "real job" yet I moved to New Orleans to pursue a Hospitality and Tourism Master's degree at UNO. It was during this time that I also earned my Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) certification, further enriching my understanding of flavors and the art of pairing.
Insert "real job" here. For over a decade, I've dedicated myself to teaching high school Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS). My career has been all about empowering young minds with essential life skills. Through FACS, I've had the privilege of guiding students in mastering practical kitchen skills, nurturing their culinary passions, and fostering a deeper appreciation for the art of food.
In July 2022, a spur-of-the-moment decision to organize a last-minute kids' cooking class for my son sparked an unexpected journey.
In the fall of 2022, while navigating this exciting entrepreneurial journey, I embraced a passion that was put on the back burner while focusing on my career with kids. With the opportunity to expand my expertise in the world of wine. I added an introductory sommelier certification to my repertoire.
It only takes one... one friend took one chance on me. She gave me the opportunity to show what I could do and share my passion. Now I get to be a part of celebrations and moments of joy for all ages!
Do you know why flamingos are pink?
Diet. They consume a diet rich in shrimp and algae that contain carotenoids (remember the part where I said I was a nerd). These are broken down and cause the flamingo's pink feathers and skin. Name a color more fun than pink....I'll wait. So, all that to say when you are what you eat, BE PINK! Life is too short to eat boring food.
On a much cheesier note, flamingos also lose their color when they have young chicks because they devote all their energy to the babies. As a mom of two young kids, I feel that! This business has been an opportunity for me to get my pink back, show that I still got it, and continue to fuel my passion.
